First and foremost, you’ll need a dumbbell set to get your home gym equipment stash off on the right foot. For whatever reason, dumbbells are pretty pricey. However, they are super important when working out, so you’ll definitely need to invest in some!
If you are just starting out, this dumbbell set will be perfect for you as the weights aren’t too heavy. Once you start to build more muscle and gain strength, you might want to opt for a more advanced dumbbell set with heavier weights.
You might be sticker shocked when you see the prices on these items, but unfortunately, that’s just how much they go for! I remember when I first started building my home gym and I thought the prices were absolutely crazy. So, I opted for adjustable dumbbells, which also helped save some space in my tiny apartment!
If you’ll need one thing in your home gym, it is probably a dumbbell set, so make sure to take time to do some research and find which set meets your needs!
Resistance bands are an excellent way to get a good workout in, without using dumbbells! They give you the same resistance that a dumbbell would, without having to deal with a bulky weight (or accidentally dropping it on your foot!). These resistance bands have handles which make them easy to use and work with! They also come in 5 different resistance levels so you can increase your strength over time.
You should also consider getting some resistance loops, which are great for tons of exercises. You have probably seen people use these a lot for leg exercises like squats and lunges- they really add resistance to your muscles in place of dumbbells! Plus, they are super easy to store.
Another home gym equipment essential you should consider are gliding discs! I had never used these until the past year or so, and I was so surprised by the amount of exercises you could do with them!
There are tons of leg workouts you can do with just a pair of discs. You can also do variations of push ups with the discs, as well as tons of mobility and stretching exercises.
Some of the discs come with a strap for your foot or hand, but I have found it to be unnecessary! Your shoe or bare foot will grip to the slider just fine!
I’ll be honest- I didn’t even know these were a thing until I started doing this particular Beachbody workout. But now that I know they exist, I think it is genius! Indoor jump ropes allow you to “jump rope” like you normally would, but without having to worry about smacking your tv or your child with the jump rope while you’re inside!
Of course, you could just use a regular jumprope and go outside or in your garage or something… But I think these are way more fun and make you look like a true fitness guru!
Working out on carpet can cause slipping, and working out on a hard floor can be dangerous! Another home gym equipment item you need is some good flooring to work out on.
Many people opt to get these interlocking foam tiles, because you can make the flooring as big or as small as you need for the space you have. These are much nicer to lay or stretch on, instead of the gross garage or basement floor!
You can also consider getting a simple yoga mat, so you can roll it out when you need it, then store it away when you’re finished!
Another home gym equipment essential you need is an ab roller. If you’ve never used an ab roller before… you just wait! They look super simple to use, but boy do they get your abs burning!
If you are looking for a simple and quick ab workout, an ab roller will do just the trick. Get on your knees (or on your toes if you’re really ambitions), and slowly roll the ab roller forward and back. Within a rep or two I guarantee you’ll already be feeling the burn!
Looking to practice your chin ups and pull ups? Make sure to get one of these doorway chin up bars! You can put them on pretty much any doorway, and are super easy to assemble and move when not in use.
You can also use this bar on the ground to help assist with your push ups! These are great exercises to start building muscle, so this will be a great investment! Plus, once you get good at doing them, you can show off to your friends and say you can do a pull up!
Mirrors can be pretty expensive for whatever reason, but they make an amazing addition to any home gym! By getting a full length mirror, you will be able to watch yourself as you work out. This is important because you will be able to correct your form which will prevent injuries!
It is difficult to improve your form if you cannot see what you are doing, so make sure that you are working out safely and get a mirror for your home gym!
Plus, you’ll need a good mirror to check out all the amazing progress you are making!!
Another home gym equipment item you should consider getting is a weight training bench! There are so many exercises you can do just by using a simple bench with a pair of weights, so it makes it a great addition to your home gym!
You can use it to lay on and do chest presses, use it to assist your rows, or use it as a step to get some let workouts in! The possibilities are truly endless! Plus, you’ll need a place to sit and rest when you’re all finished working out!
Exercise balls are a super fun way to get a workout in (or just bounce on because, well, we all love to do that!) You’ve probably seen them being used often, and there is a good reason why! They are easy to use, don’t weigh a lot, and are very affordable!
You can use them to do a variety of ab workouts, stretch out your sore muscles, or to work out your legs! You can truly do an entire workout just using an exercise ball- and then you’ll have something to bounce on during your rests!
