If you’ve been wanting some travel costume ideas, this one has probably already crossed your mind. It is likely the most common one, but is still a good one! Being a tourist for Halloween is perhaps the easiest costume on this list, as you can get a lot from the thrift store if you don’t have the items already (or raid your dad’s closet!)
What you’ll need:
- Button-down Hawaiian shirt
- Floppy hat with chin strap
- Sandals (With tall socks!)
- White makeup to put around your eyes to mimic getting an awful tan
- Maps to hold onto
- A digital camera with a strap
- Old cargo shorts
- Fanny pack
Bonus:
- Neck pillow around your neck
- Lanyard with waterproof case for Ids, cards, etc.
- Binoculars
- Brochures
- Old camera bag (or camcorder!)
One of the cutest travel costume ideas is a travel bug! This one is super simple and quick to put together. Pretty much all you need is:
And that’s pretty much it! This costume is great for a last-minute party you weren’t expecting to go to, or if you are just looking to go simple and punny this year! If you want to take it up a notch, here are some bonus items you can add to this costume:
- Make a skirt out of an old map!
- 2 piece map top and skirt outfit
- Cheaper map dress alternative
- Add some wings!
Statue of Liberty and New Yorker Costume
Another fun travel costume idea is great for couples or friends: One person is the Statue of Liberty, and the other is a New Yorker tourist!
For the Statue of Liberty, you can buy the entire set off Amazon for under $20! Here it is right here.
You can also wear a light green/seafoam green dress, hold a book, buy the headband, and get the torch! However, it still seems most cost-effective just to get the whole costume as a set!
You can make the headband and torch with paper and tissue paper too if you are looking to get crafty and save some money!
For the New Yorker costume, you will need:
- I love New York shirt
- Sandals with socks
- Floppy hat with chin strap
- Fanny pack
- Digital Camera
- Cargo shorts
- Any other classic tourist gear!
Pilot and Flight Attendant Costume
Looking for unique travel costume ideas? Why not try a pilot and flight attendant! This is a great costume for couples or even a family!
Here’s what you’ll need:
If the pilot costume is too expensive, you can simply wear a suit or dress pants and a button-down shirt and tie, with these pilot accessories.
It’s pretty simple, and doesn’t require a whole lot of thought or effort! You can even get some of these plastic wing badges pilots often wear!
Google Maps Costume
You can also be Google Maps for Halloween! This is an easy and fun costume for groups, or even just as an individual costume!
Here’s what you’ll need:
- Red poster board (or other thick paper), and write an A or B on the top. Cut it out like the pin symbol on Google Maps! You can put this onto a headband so it stays on your head
- Or, paint it onto your face!
- Gray Shirt or dress
- Yellow duct tape to put “streets” on the shirt. You can label the streets with a permanent market.
That’s it! Choose a destination that is important to you to replicate onto your clothing, or somewhere you just want to go!
If you are a travel lover, why not be the world for Halloween? There are a few different ways that you can do this, each pretty simple!
First, you can simply buy the globe Halloween costume on Amazon, here. It is pretty expensive though, so you might like these other options.
One way you can do it is to get a giant balloon, which will be a model of the size it will end up being. Then, you will make Paper Mache around the globe. Once it dries, pop the balloon, and paint it!
Remember to measure your doorway before you get the balloon, otherwise, you could get stuck inside your house!
If you are pregnant, you can also make your belly the globe, which is a pretty easy and quick idea!
Another easy Halloween costume for travelers is a passport. All you need to do for this one is to get a large piece of poster board and paint or draw in the face of a passport. You could also print out a large image of a passport at a nearby photo printing service, then paste it onto the poster board. Add a strap to slip over your head, and that’s it!
If you’re feeling really creative, you can always make the passport open up! Add another poster board to it so it opens like a book. Add the identification page or the stamped pages for a more authentic look!
