Easy Beauty Hacks for Travel

Easy Beauty Hacks for Travel

Skincare and makeup routines can become tricky when traveling, given the liquids policy on airplanes, outlet differences in international countries, and running out of space in your suitcase. Plus, no one wants to spend hours getting ready in the hotel bathroom when you can be out exploring! So, we put together some easy beauty hacks for travel

Some of these tips can be used to kill time during a long layover when you have nothing else to do or ways to pass time on an airplane.

Sometimes during a long flight you just need to freshen up, and sometimes dealing with jet lag gets the best of you and you need to try your best to hide those under-eye bags.

Whatever the case, we hope these easy beauty hacks for travel will help make your daily beauty routines easier while traveling!

Beauty Hacks every traveler should know about

Especially if you are on a vacation at a warm destination, chances are you are going to get sweaty! You might be walking miles around town every day, hiking or doing something adventurous, or laying at the beach.

Whatever it is, you might need a quick clean up. No one wants to go out to dinner with a greasy sweaty face. The good news is that all you need is some blotting sheets! These NYX blotting sheets only cost $4 on Amazon for 50 sheets

Another beauty hack every traveler has to try is use napkins instead of blotting sheets.  If you are out at a restaurant and notice they have paper napkins, grab a few and keep a stash in your purse. You can also use some toilet paper to blot away some oil. They make great blotting sheets in a pinch!

These are my absolute favorite way to pack liquids on planes. Most travel containers are around 3 ounces, the flight regulation. But, most of the time you don’t need that much of a product!

For example, you might only need a little bit of frizz tamer for your hair, or foundation. You definitely don’t need 3 ounces of either of these products!

You can either use clean contact cases to hold small amounts of liquids or get yourself some of these tiny travel containers. This way, you can save space in your suitcase by only bringing what you need.

Think of all the things you can put in these tiny containers: day or night creme, BB cream, foundation, concealer, powders, even medicine! Get rid of all the extra bulky containers, and pack as small as possible!

These help SO much and are an essential packing tip every traveler should know! So much extra space!

Another great item on our list of easy beauty hacks for travel is using pill containers! There are all sorts of pill containers in different shapes and sizes. These are essentially tiny containers like what were discussed above, but are all together in one spot!

Instead of having 5-10 mini containers, using a pill container will keep everything together. You can put all your small liquids in each section such as foundation, BB cream, sunscreen, etc! You could also use it for its original use too, to save space on a bulky pill or vitamin bottles.

They also make great holders for jewelry like earrings, rings, and necklaces, to keep them safe and in one place! Maybe you can wrap your headphones up and fit them in there, the possibilities are endless!

These are also a top carry on item, to give easy access to products you might want to use during the flight or to hold important medications you might need.

Plastic Wrap

orange shampoo in bottle

This trick has saved me many times, so I figured I would add it to this list of easy beauty hacks for travel! Liquids spill so easily, even in the best toiletry bags.

Save yourself a giant mess of shampoos and soaps all over the inside of your suitcase by placing plastic wrap under the lid of the bottle. Additionally, make sure to not fill the bottle up all the way. Leave some room, so liquids have room to expand due to air pressure on the plane.

This one really works, guys. It is SO simple and I can’t believe I never did this earlier! My toiletry bags used to always be full of soaps and spilled liquids, and now there is not a single drop! Give it a try!

Here are some other tips on how to pack your liquids on a plane

Save your compacts/powders

Flat Lay Photography of Makeup Brushes and Compacts

Any makeup lover knows the pain of dropping your compact or eyeshadows, only to have them crack into a million pieces. When traveling, your bags will be moving around a lot, with plenty of opportunities for this disaster to happen.

Instead, prepare your powders by using a cotton pad! Place a cotton ball or pad into the compact or eyeshadow case, and it should protect it from cracking! If you don’t have one, place a wad of toilet paper or tissues inside, it will serve the same purpose!

Simple and easy!

Does anyone remember these from when you were a little kid? Well, not going to lie, I still use these!

They are perfect to place into your purse or bag, folding up nicely so it doesn’t take up much space.

You never know when you will need a mirror (many hostels don’t have mirrors!). Maybe you have some crazy beach hair that needs a quick brush through, or you need to fix your makeup on the go before going to dinner.

You need one of these. Even if you are not going on vacation, keep one in your purse or car! They really come in handy.

If you are anything like me, you carry chapstick everywhere you go. Especially when on vacation, you will need to protect your lips from the sun and keep them hydrated.

I use Burt’s Bees tinted lip balm in the red dahlia color. Not only does it act like a typical chapstick, but it gives your lips a nice tint, dubbing as a lipstick! It goes on easy and evenly, and has a subtle shine to it. Sometimes I use this under other lipstick to keep my lips moisturized while blending two colors together.

It is super easy to apply, and will give your makeup a quick and easy pick me up throughout the day! Get a few colors so you can have a day look and a night look!

I’ve mentioned sheet masks before in previous posts, as a great way to get some self-care on an airplane!

Did you know the air inside a plane is drier than the Sahara desert?! Just think of your poor skin. It is going to need some love!

Buy a pack of sheet masks to quickly pop on during a long flight, layover, or at the hotel after a long night out drinking.

Keeping your skin moisturized will do wonders for your complexion, and is an easy way to get some quick self-care in during a busy trip!

We should all probably wash our hair less, but it can be difficult, especially if you have hair on the greasy side. However, washing your hair less will eventually make your hair less greasy in between washes, and could even make it look healthier and grow faster!

During the weeks before your vacation, try to wash your hair less and use less heat styling. This will give you hair time to adapt to less washing, so you can wash it less during vacation!

This is a huge time saver: you won’t need to wash, condition, blow-dry, and style every day, when you should be out exploring!

Get a travel-sized bottle of dry shampoo to use in between washes to give your hair a quick pick me up.

To save from having to pack shampoo, consider buying shampoo bars! This is another great beauty hack every traveler has to try!

You will not have to worry about the shampoo leaking all over your suitcase, and you don’t need to worry about liquid restrictions, as it is technically a solid!

Additionally, once the bar is out, you will have more space in your suitcase since you won’t need to bring it back home with you!

Cordless hair styling

Our last beauty hack every traveler has to try involves cordless hairstyling! Think cordless hairdryer, cordless hair straightener, and cordless curling iron.

This will save room in your suitcase, and you won’t need to worry about blowing a circuit in your hotel room when using the wrong voltage on your power adapter (yes, this might have happened…)

Plus, you can use it on the go, and you won’t need to worry about finding an outlet.
